How do I get an appointment with ACES?

Before we can offer you an appointment with ACES, we must receive a referral from your GP, optician, or Referral Management Centre. Alternatively, you can book your own appointment through Choose and Book.

Referral

After we have received a referral, our booking coordinators will contact you initially by telephone within 2 working days of receiving the referral. The booking coordinator will arrange an appointment at a time and date convenient for you, and will send a letter to confirm the details.

Choose and Book

Choose and Book is an automated computerised booking system that is being used for patients' convenience in the NHS. Through this system you receive a reference code from your GP or Referral Management Centre which allows you to view our vacant appointments and choose the one that is most convenient for you. You can change your appointment through Choose and Book online as well.

For more information, please visit the Choose and Book website »

Whichever of the two methods of initial referral you use, you can change your appointment by simply contacting our booking coordinator, who will be happy to do this for you over the phone.

Unfortunately we do not offer a walk-in service and we are not able to see patients who refer themselves.

Patient Satisfaction Survey

Every year, we ask our patients about all aspects of their experience at ACES. We use this survey to identify any areas of our service which we could improve upon. We are very proud of the results, and they can be viewed at the link below.

Some patient comments

"Thank you for my sight. It is wonderful, I am able to read print now and even the newspaper. It has made such a difference to my life"

"I am writing to thank you for the cataract operation you performed. I was very nervous and you were very patient with me. It was not painful and I did not have a black eye following the surgery, so you did do better than the one I had in 2002 in the USA. Your nursing and administrative staff were very kind, supportive and attentive, so thank you all very much."

"Just a short note to say a special thank you for the most helpful way that you explained to me and my wife her eye problems. We are especially grateful and understood it all very well. Your comments were very valuable to us. My wife has always found it a difficult task coping with doctors and medical terminology but you explained her situation in such a way that reassured us both. Thank you once again for your patience and help."

"My heartfelt thanks. If your work ethic and that of your staff at ACES was transferred to the rest of the NHS it would not be in the state it is now!"

"Being a nervous person and not liking hospitals I felt so at ease with the doctors and nurses and the care they gave me."
