We had a chat with William Maughan, who was recently appointed as the new NHS Partnership Executive for ACES Cambridge and Peterborough. Coming from a competitor background, William is very much looking forward to driving referrals to ACES and supporting the NHS in providing an exceptional quality of eye care to patients.
- What were you doing prior to joining ACES?
I worked as an NHS Partnership Executive for CHEC Eye Hospitals.
- What first attracted you to join ACES?
I was drawn to the higher-quality hospitals and the fact that ACES offers to NHS patients a level of service equal to private patients.
- Can you explain what your role is going to be?
I will be engaging with influencers of referrals (such as GPs and Optometrists) to raise awareness of the services that ACES provide and the benefits of referring their patients to ACES.
- What are you most excited about?
I’m thrilled to be meeting new people whilst ensuring that more NHS patients receive the high quality eye care they require.
- Is there somebody who has inspired you along your career?
The two people who have inspired me during my career I met out of work – Mr Tony Robbins in Birmingham and Mr Steven Bartlett in London – and they inspired me to be more positive and proactive, to keep myself informed and to keep learning every day.
- What is the best piece of advice that you’ve ever received?
“Live every day like it is your last.”
- What are you the most proud of?
My children are my biggest source of pride.
- What would you do if you won the lottery?
I would continue to work, upgrade my house and take my children on holiday.
