Get to know our ACES team: Q&A with Kevin Cartmell, Head of Stakeholder Engagement

We had a chat with Kevin Cartmell, Head of Stakeholder Engagement at ACES. Acting as the liaison between our field teams and the community-based referring optometrists, GPs and LOCs, he is here to ensure the consistency and cohesion of our approach to new and active partners.

  • What were you doing previously?

Before ACES, I was the Engagement Manager for a competitor provider of eye care services, covering the whole of England. My role was to grow the hospital estate by working with the communities and Local Optical Committees (LOCs) to develop the community-based ophthalmology solutions.

  • What first attracted you to join ACES?

ACES are expanding rapidly across England and has the desire to be the number ophthalmology provider in community healthcare. I was very keen to join an ambitious team with the capacity to grow exponentially.

  • Can you explain what your role with ACES involves?

My role is incredibly varied, from supporting the team of NHS Partnership Executives in their day-to-day activities, to implement strategic change to develop pathway improvements for our partners. I also provide operational support to our Contracts team and our Divisional Directors. I’m here to help keep communication flowing smoothly between the field teams and the external partners, like optometrists, GPs, and LOCs – ensuring consistency and cohesion in messaging is crucial for maintaining a strong and unified approach, especially when it comes to community outreach.

“Ensuring consistency and cohesion in messaging is crucial for maintaining a strong and unified approach, especially when it comes to community outreach.”

  • What are you most excited about?

I’m excited to participate in the continued growth plan to develop the ACES brand across England, and of course fulfil our desire to be the best!

  • What is the best piece of advice that you’ve ever received?

As every door closes, a new opportunity is born.

  • What would you do if you won the lottery?

I would love to own a villa in a warmer climate, which would probably mean early retirement. On the bucket list is also exploring some parts of the world I have not yet ventured in, like America!
